Diego (Alain Delon), the son of a rich planter, has been abroad for a long time: he has traveled the world, learned swordsmanship, and is returning to his homeland. But he is stunned by the chaos and violence that once ruled his homely and peaceful homeland. His old friend, the governor, will be the victim of murder, and power seems to be finally taken over by an invisible evil force lurking in the background.
