Description
We will celebrate two significant anniversaries of Hungarian archival history in 2023, the 300th and 100th. At the 1722-1723 Diet, the orders adopted several other notable articles - such as the female line of succession to the House of Habsburg and the establishment of the Council of Governors - as well as Article XLV, which decided to establish the country's general archives. The National Archives of His Majesty the King moved 100 years ago, in the autumn of 1923, from the Ministry of the Interior in Buda Castle to the new building on Bécsi kapu tér, the first actual archive building in our country. The Hungarian National Archives is celebrating the double anniversary with a photo album. The focus of the volume is on institutions that preserve written memorial materials of lasting value created over the past centuries. The archivists' articles present the history of the medieval royal archives, the archives of central government bodies in the early modern period, then the Archivum Regni (1756-1874) and the modern National Archives organized on their basis, thus presenting a chapter of archival affairs that can also be studied from an architectural perspective to the readers. The celebratory publication is also enriched by documents, seals, plans, maps, photographs and other historical memorabilia kept in public collections, many of which were previously unknown to researchers and the general public.
